Courageous Train Employee Receives Life-Threatening Wounds During Mass Stabbing Incident on Express Train
A valiant train employee who intervened to save travelers during a mass stabbing attack on a express train has sustained critical injuries, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
Details of the Frightening Event
Surveillance footage reportedly depicts the staff member trying to stop the attacker as the train journeyed between Peterborough and Huntingdon in the county. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute duration after the train departed Peterborough, with injured passengers fleeing through compartments.
The suspect, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, is in detention for questioning. Authorities announced a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.
Emergency Response and Consequences
The incident on the weekend led to 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have now been discharged from hospital.
A witness recorded the individual waving a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he confronted police on the station. He was allegedly heard shouting, "Kill me, end my life."
“This terrible incident has affected many people. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – especially the brave member of rail staff whose relatives are being assisted by specialist personnel,” said a senior law enforcement official.
Labor Reaction and Calls for Action
Train unions were swift to commend employees and demand increased action. A labor official stated he would be “seeking urgent discussions with authorities, rail employers and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the strongest possible support, tools and robust procedures in operation”.
Another union leader encouraged the train operator and authorities “to move swiftly to examine security, to help the impacted workers, and to make sure that no incident like this occurs again”.
Driver Commended for Rapid Thinking
The train driver who stopped the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been commended by union representatives for doing “precisely what was needed”.
“He did not stop the train in the center of two stations where it’s obviously difficult for the first responders to reach, but he continued going until he got to Huntingdon, where the response was almost already there,” stated a union official.

Authorities have stated there is nothing to indicate the event was a terrorist incident and have requested the public to come forward with any additional details.
Rail services on the impacted line are anticipated to have delays until the following day, with travelers advised to defer their travel where possible.
